The Hiring Processs
The Sugarshine Team is built on a foundation of respect, love and empowerment. The perfect people for our team live active lifestyles and have experience in occupations and activities that keep them moving. Many of our team members have backgrounds in high-paced food service, military service, team sports and other activities/occupations that require physical stamina and a great self-driven sense of urgency.
Much of our work requires our team members to keep an efficient schedule without any direct influence of a manager. People who are skilled at self-motivating are ideal. We also LOVE people who can think critically and take action to solve problems on their own. We teach our employees to anticipate the needs of their fellow teammates and our clients. Does your partner need help reaching something? Do it! Did you notice the client’s front porch is covered in leaves? Clean it up! This type of forward-thinking is what makes our team amazing.
People who are interested in joining our team are asked some initial questions that will give us some basic knowledge. Then we schedule a 15-30 minute phone interview to better get to know you. If we feel the good vibes, we will arrange a time to meet in person and continue the process of understanding each other. We give our applicant all the time THEY need to ask US questions. We need to know that it will be a good fit for everyone, including the people who apply to work with us.
We like each other… now what? Training!
The training process starts on the soonest available date following your introduction to our team.
The first day is primarily orientation, paperwork, and an intro to our process by way of “shadowing.” Basically, we ask you to stand and watch, paying attention to what our trainers do and share verbally. The very first thing we teach is how to look at things the Sugarshine way and how to retrain your brain to avoid common human mistakes. To illustrate those common human errors, we offer these wise words:
“People only clean what they can see, nose to knees.” – Caleigh Duscasne, totally fictional character on CSI Miami.
We are not going to promise that you will be skilled enough to clean-up a crime scene, but we definitely break the “nose to knees” habit. We teach you how to look at things differently, move differently, and evaluate differently. We help foster good habits of observation, critical thinking, muscle memory, and time management.
The first two weeks of training are spent shadowing, copying, testing and being shadowed by a trainer. It is our goal for a new team member to be proficient in the basics of our service after two weeks, but the training is never over for anyone. Focus points will continue to evolve as your skill does. We know everyone has a general idea of how to clean- our goal is to teach you the Sugarshine way.
“Sugarshine broke-fixed me.” Jess B, 2018, Actual Sugarshine Team member on what happened when she learned how we do things.
